The Context
Untouched World™ Kitchen is the premium dining arm of the iconic Burnside flagship store. While the retail brand is globally recognised, the Kitchen needed to move beyond being seen as just an "amenity" to becoming a standalone destination for premium brunch and lunch.
The Challenge
The Kitchen had healthy branded traffic but was largely invisible to "non-brand-aware" searchers—travellers near Christchurch Airport or locals looking for the "Best Brunch in Burnside." It was competing in the general "café" category rather than the higher-intent "premium restaurant" category, missing out on high-value daytime dining moments.
The Strategy (What I Did)
Category Control & Authority Reset: Re-engineered the Google Business Profile and directory presence to align with "Restaurant" and "Brunch" signals rather than just "Coffee Shop."
Machine-Readable Authority: Implemented advanced schema and technical signals to ensure AI search tools and GPS systems (Google Maps, Apple Maps) recommend the Kitchen for intent-based queries like "Where to eat near Christchurch Airport."
Strategic Discovery Partnerships: Leveraged First Table NZ not as a discount tool, but as a discovery engine. This reinforced the "Restaurant" category signal and improved SEO spillover through high-authority backlinks.
Intent-Bridging Content: Created an internal linking strategy between the retail Flagship page and the Kitchen page to clarify to search engines that the Kitchen is a primary destination.
Visual Intent Alignment: Shifted the visual storytelling to focus on "premium dining moments" to influence the Google Image Search and social discovery algorithms.
The Results
Search Dominance: Successfully captured key search intent for "Restaurants in Burnside" and "Lunch near Christchurch Airport," placing the Kitchen at the moment of decision for travellers.
AI & Platform Readiness: Positioned the Kitchen as a top-tier recommendation for AI-assisted travel itineraries and local discovery platforms.
Market Positioning: Shifted the brand perception from a retail "add-on" to a credible, premium daytime dining destination in the Christchurch market.
